PENDİK, KURTKÖY SOCIAL CENTER:
LIBRARY & KINDERGARTEN
While the proposed project aims to create a social continuity within the public focus defined by education, parks, worship and sports activities in the immediate surroundings, it aims to relate these distinctive structures that give the area its public identity. Based on the argument that the richness of public life can be defined not through walls and borders that break relations, but through permeability and diversity of relations, it proposes an architecture that opens itself to the surrounding urban fabric and tries to relate in different ways with the surrounding buildings. The proposal that opens itself to the outside instead of a closed box, reflects the life inside, does not hesitate to include the movement in the environment at the same rate, and is fed by this activity, aims to create a transparent surface within the closed or conservative building texture of the region. In the proposed project, the spaces where the Library function takes place play the role of emphasizing this permeable public interface, while the Kindergarten section develops in a structure related to the library but more sheltered, facing its own private garden.
