MERZİFON BUSINESS AND URBAN CENTER
The existing Wholesale Market Building has been a part of the collective memory as a significant focus of commercial activity at the city center. This building is very important for the commercial, social and cultural life of the urban fabric with its strong relationship with the urban ground and arcades. Being right in the city center, this site which is a part of the collective memory, pedestrian and historical is an ideal location for containing functions that will revive the urban life.
Merzifon Business and Urban Center should exist as a core which provides necessary spaces of different dimensions while generating links to surrounding focal points and rejuvenating existing urban life.
In this context, the main design strategy departs from the idea of distributing the urban life in the ground level to different levels of the building. This idea crystallizes in 2 main design acts:
· The distribution of pedestrian movement in Hal Sokak to every level of the building,
· Placement of the office block as a background on less densely used west side to feed this pedestrian movement.
